A flow field held in metal.
IMPULSE translates the visual behaviour of energy and movement into a large illuminated surface. Parametrically designed metal plates form a pattern of openings; changing backlighting creates the impression of currents passing through them.
The installation was developed with FELD for the reception area of Reebok’s headquarters in Boston’s Seaport District. Its visual language connects the industrial character of the building materials with the movement of the nearby water.

02 / My contribution
Coordinating the technical work across production.
As technical lead, I handled international production coordination for the installation. This connected the designed surface, its lighting components and the work required to realise the installation in Boston.
The project combined physical fabrication with a time-based visual composition. My role was to help bring those parts together into a complete installation through studio collaboration.

03 / Visual system
Fixed geometry, changing movement.
The metal pattern evokes a flow field: a way of describing the direction and movement of forces through space. Its cut-outs establish a fixed visual structure, while the changing light makes that structure appear fluid.
The development material below includes a simulation view of the field. Placing this beside the finished work makes the translation clear—from a moving computational image to a fabricated surface that responds to light.

04 / Behind the surface
The image depends on an assembly.
The process photographs reveal the installation from the side that visitors rarely see: lighting components, cables and the depth behind the metal surface.
These views connect the finished flow effect to the practical work of construction. The material and its illumination are developed and assembled together, even though the final experience reads as one continuous surface.

05 / Life and Context
An installation forming the first impression.
The installation is the first impression visitors and employees have after stepping out of the lift into the reception area of Reebok headquarters in Boston. The installation emulates the dynamic life of everyone in the building.
