I teach design and artistic concepts through experiments with materials, code, sound and physical systems. Students build, test and revise their ideas, developing technical understanding alongside their own artistic questions.

Approach

From shared exercises
to independent work.

My courses connect short technical and theoretical inputs with hands-on exploration. A common starting point gives students tools to work with; successive prototypes help them discover what those tools can do in their own practice.

Material behaviour, fabrication and control are developed together. Group discussions and individual feedback make the decisions behind an outcome visible—not just whether a prototype works, but how it shapes an experience.

Mechanisms of Control

Berlin University of the Arts · New Media Class · BA / MA · 2025–26

Exercises in Arduino, sensing, actuation and communication introduce ways to work with light, movement and interactive systems. Students reinterpret and combine these foundations, moving from code challenges and hardware experiments towards independent kinetic and media works.

Weekly prototype cycles connect technical choices to their perceptual and artistic effects. Topics include mechanisms and machines, light in time and space, and the practical value of testing an idea early.

Introduction to Soft Robotics

Anhalt University of Applied Sciences · MA · Five-day workshop · May 2023

Co-taught with Virginia Binsch. Students explored how flexible films, geometry, joining methods, and air pressure can produce movement.

Brief introductions to research and techniques led into material experiments and the development of pneumatic structures. Fabrication and control were tested in parallel, with peer discussions supporting each iteration.

Kinetic Origami Structures

Anhalt University of Applied Sciences · MA · Five-day workshop · November 2023

Folding studies offered a route from a flat sheet to a moving three-dimensional structure. Students combined digital geometry with plotter and laser-cutting processes, then returned to physical models to refine their behaviour.

The course alternated theory, practical exercises and group projects. Peer and guest critiques connected geometric and material decisions to possible applications.

Do AI Copilots Actually Help? This workshop examined the use of AI assistance in creative coding for design students without any pre-existing knowledge of coding or relevant techniques.
